How To Organize Your Makeup Drawer

If you need a way to organize your makeup drawer and have lots of makeup, it’s usually all thrown into a drawer or into some kind of basket.

Most of the time we can’t find what we need or it’s just all old makeup that needs to go into the trash.

So now is the time to clean it out and organize your makeup drawer.

If you have makeup clutter and need some ideas to get it organized.

Here are some great ways to do it so that your makeup is easy to find and will look beautiful too!

I think we can all agree that is very annoying when you can’t find your favorite lipstick or shadow.

It makes sense to keep things organized so you don’t have to go looking around for your favorite makeup items.

When you have a makeup organizer,  you can keep all of your makeup in one place and a big benefit is that your organizer is clear!

A cluttered makeup drawer might not seem like a big deal at first until you are running late and need to get to your makeup items in a hurry and then it becomes necessary to organize your items.

When you take a look at how cluttered your makeup drawer is and how many unused makeup items you have you may feel a little overwhelmed but there is no need for that because these tips will help you get on your way to a beautifully organized makeup collection!

Here are some tips to get rid of makeup clutter beautifully.

Follow these steps, and you’ll have a well organized makeup collection, a simplified beauty routine and—best of all—you won’t be wasting money on products you regret.

To make the most of these steps, grab a pen and paper and take stock of what you have, and what you will throw out.

First figure out what you use the most and then which products you can live without and throw the old product out.

Then start sorting your favorite makeup items into categories.

Makeup Categories

#1 – Foundation, face powders – I will usually use one drawer for this because I will put my foundation, bb creams and concealer into this drawer.

#2 – Eye Shadows – I have a ton of eye shadow! So I just use one drawer for this as well. The drawers are large and wide enough to put your eye-shadow palettes into and then on the sides of the drawer you can put loose shadow pots or small single shadows in this one. #3 – Cheek Colors – I use half of the drawer for these. There are separators that come with your organizer when you order so this comes in handy.

#4 – Liners, you can do two categories on these. If you have a variety of colors you can split this into lip liners and eye liners. Use the separators for these categories in one drawer.

#5 – Lip Color  – I use one drawer for this with separators. Lipsticks in one, Gloss in the other.

Makeup Brushes

This is optional but you can either use a separator inside one of the drawers and put your makeup brushes inside or you can purchase a separate makeup brush organizer which I did.

Here is a really cute one which will sit on top or next to your organizer.

This not only keeps your makeup brushes organized and easy to get to but it keeps them in good condition too!

How To Organize Your Makeup With Your New Makeup Organizer

A lot of women own a makeup organizer but need some help organizing their makeup and putting it all together inside the organizer. Here are some great ways to organize your makeup and make your life easier.

First. Make sure you have a good quality makeup organizer. The best one that I have found is a clear acrylic makeup organizer that has lots of drawers and inserts so you can separate your makeup into different sections.

The best way to organize your makeup is to take your makeup out of wherever you have it now. (drawer, makeup bag or box) and spread it all out on a table in front of you. Now take a good look at what you use the most and start to put each makeup item into a category. Lipsticks all together, eye shadows all together, mascara and eyeliners together, etc.

If you just purchased a clear acrylic makeup organizer then put in your inserts and take the makeup items you selected and place them into sections on the first drawer. I put my lipsticks and lip liners in one section, my eye shadows and eyeliners in the next section, foundation, powder and concealer in one section and then blush and bronzer or face brightener in the next section and so on.

The first and second drawers are the place where I store my most used makeup items. The third and forth drawers are for other items like hair accessories, tweezers and scissors or jewelry. It’s up to you what you feel will work best for you. That is what is so nice about these organizers. You can make it your own and customize it to your liking.

Bonus * While going through everything, this would be a great opportunity for you to throw out your old makeup.

Now once you have everything in place, take a step back and look at what you have done!  It’s much easier to get to and you have just shaved off about 10 to 15 min of trying to find makeup items from a previous unorganized drawer or box of makeup!
